During the next three weeks we will be reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. This site will help you find the information you need to complete each of the assignments associated with the unit. The links provide general background information about Mark Twain, articles commenting on the publishing of Huck Finn, and information focusing on the literary elements present in the novel. We will begin our study of Mark Twain and Huckleberry Finn by flipping through the Interactive Scrapbook provided by PBS. Then I will ask you to read the articles linked below that comment on the banning of Huckleberry Finn when it was first published. You will then make a judgment as to whether Huck Finn is justly or unjustly banned from libraries and schools. Your final project will be to create a library newsletter from a library that is either advocating the banning of Huck Finn or is against the banning of Huck Finn. I will provide you with a detailed assignment sheet and grading rubric for each assignment.
