District Announcements

Dear Ironton Families: (12/10/2020)

As you are all very aware, the pandemic has not been kind to our community and COVID-19 cases continue to surge at an alarming rate.  True to the experts guidance the issue is not with the school(s) as we have seen minimal contact cases within our buildings. However, contact cases occurring outside of our buildings has desperately impacted our ability to provide adequate supervision and instruction due to the masses moving in and out of quarantine and/or testing positive for COVID-19.  In an effort to contribute to a solution to the rising number of COVID cases, as well as sustain our ability to provide a more cohesive instructional program for all students, Ironton City Schools will implement the following:

Friday, December 18, 2020 currently scheduled as an instructional day (with students) will be changed to a teacher workday (without students).
There will be no school for students and staff December 19, 2020 through January 3, 2021 due to Christmas break.
All Ironton City School buildings (Preschool through Grade 12) will operate on a virtual learning schedule beginning Monday, January 4, 2021 through Friday, January 15, 2021.
During the virtual learning period, students will need to log on daily for attendance purposes, follow Google Classroom lessons/activities/assignments, and participate in live Google Meets or pre-recorded learning videos as prescribe by the classroom teacher.
Students and families are encouraged to email or contact their teachers through Google Classroom  for further information or clarification.
Food Service will be available for pick up at the IES/IMS and IHS buildings.
During virtual learning, families who experience COVID related cases (either positive or close contact) should contact the campus nurse for reporting and contact tracing purposes.
Additional resources and information will be posted on www.tigertown.com, Facebook, and via school messenger in the coming weeks.

As a district, we have appreciated the support and understanding of our community stakeholders during the first semester.  In the fall, we recognized that there was no “one size fits all” plan to accommodate the needs and wants of every individual.  True today, as it was in the fall, the measures listed above represent the best course of action to keep our ICSD family safe while providing the best possible educational outcomes.  We will continue to monitor the situation during the virtual period, but it is our sincerest desire to resume in-person instruction, with a remote option, on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Go Tigers,

Joe Geletka
Superintendent
