Dear Ironton Families:

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we've navigated our back to school planning to best fit the needs of our students, parents/guardians and staff, while working within the parameters set forth by the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Education's recommendations. The health and safety of students and staff has been our primary focus during the pandemic, but we further strive to balance those measures with providing the best possible educational experiences for each individual student. Due to the uncertainty of our current environment, our plan may change and evolve as new guidelines and mandates are levied between now and the start of school.
As of this release, all Ironton City School will return full-time with in-person instruction in August. You can review our detailed plan located here, but some key policies include:

REQUIRED facial coverings (face mask or shield) for students grade K-12.
REQUIRED facial coverings for students transported on district vehicles.
REQUIRED facial coverings for all staff members.
Health assessment conducted daily for students and staff.
Semester or year- long remote learning options for students.
All classrooms will have sanitization stations.
All classrooms will be free of clutter and excess furniture to allow for regular deep cleaning and sanitization.
Class sizes will be reduced to provide social distancing.
Breakfast and lunch will be served in the classroom for grades K-5. Grade 6-12 will eat lunch in cafeterias and gyms to maintain social distancing.
Class transitions will be minimized for grades K-5.
Hallways and common areas will have visual cues to promote hand washing, social distancing, and mask protection.
Hallways and common areas will have physical markings to delineate traffic patterns.
Visitors to our campuses will be limited to essential functions.

The district is committed to being transparent with the staff, parents/guardians, and community members with regard to the risks that exist when students and staff occupy school district facilities in the fall. We further resolve to communicate quickly with families and staff about any changes to our plan moving forward. It is recognized that there is no "one size fits all" reopening plan to accommodate the needs and wants of every individual. However, we believe this plan is the best course of action to keep our ICSD family safe while providing the highest quality education.

Go Tigers,

Joe Geletka, Superintendent
