Skills to be taught include choosing and preparing nutritious meals, caring for clothing and basic sewing. Achieving goals, decision making and dealing with the consequences of our decisions will be emphasized. $5.00 lab fee </p> <p><b><i>Personal Skills:</i></b> This class helps students take responsibility for themselves and others. Communication skills, managing stress and forming healthy relationships are covered in this course. The student will gain experience working with children as they participate in the Tiger Tales program. They go weekly to an elementary school and do activities, such as reading to the class to promote reading. $3.00 lab fee </p> <p><b><i>Independent Living II:</i></b> This course is for students who have completed Independent Living and Personal Skills. The topics covered in this class are very similar to those in Independent Living, but on a more advanced level. You will prepare more difficult nutritious meals, learn more about clothing selection and care, sew a garment, and learn how to be a better consumer. The goal of the class is to prepare students to take care of themselves and others. There will be a lab fee. This is a semester class worth ½ credit. </p> <p><b><i>Family Relations:</b></i> This class helps students recognize the significance of healthy family relationships. It will cover such areas as coordination work and family responsibilities, changes in today s family role, adjustments to today's family life styles, marriage, children and marriage conflicts. The students will gain experience working with children as they participate in the Tiger Tales program. They go weekly to an elementary school and do activities, such as reading to the class to promote reading. </p> <p>Prerequisite: This class is open to juniors and seniors and to sophomores who have completed Independent Living and Personal Skills. </p> <p><b><i>Parenting:</i></b> This class better enables students to understand the responsibilities of parenthood. It prepares individuals to meet the challenge of guiding children in their physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth and help nurture a caring relationship for child and family. This class participates in the Tiger Tales program. They will travel to an elementary school each week to read to a class.</p> <p>Prerequisite: This class is open to juniors and seniors and to sophomores who have completed Independent Living and Personal Skills. </p> <p><b><i>Life Planning and Financial Success:</i></b> This class will help students prepare for life after high school. They will be asked to set goals for education and career. The importance of problem solving, evaluating choices and their consequences, as well as the need to balance family and work are stressed. Wise use of money will be encouraged with such topics as shopping for automobiles, insurance, housing and leisure activities, as well as using banking services. </p> <p><b><i>Foods & Nutrition I:</i></b> This course is designed for students who want to further their knowledge in food selection and preparation. The relationship between nutrition and wellness will be studied and students will learn to make healthy food choices. $10.00 lab fee. </p> <p>Prerequisite: This class is open to juniors and seniors and to sophomores who have completed Independent Living and Personal Skills. </p> <p><b><i>Foods & Nutrition II:</i></b> This class is designed for students who want to further their knowledge in food selection, planning, preparation and presentation. The relationship between food choices and nutrition, wellness and fitness will be studied. Students will have numerous cooking labs gaining experience in planning, preparing and presenting a variety of foods. This class will feature a study of the diversity of global and cultural foods and their preparation. $15.00 lab fee.</p> <p>Prerequisite: This class is open to juniors and seniors who have completed Foods & Nutrition I. </p> <p><b><i>Cooking Around the World:</i></b> This course is for senior students who have completed Foods & Nutrition I and II. The student will study various countries around the world, learning about their culture, nutrition and food customs. Cooking labs of various foods will help the student gain more experience in food preparation, presentation, and customs of various places in the world. This is a semester class and is worth ½ credit. Lab fee of $20.00.</p> <p>Prerequisite: The class is open to seniors who have taken Foods & Nutrition I and II. </p> <p><b><i>Clothing Construction I:</i></b> Do you want to learn to sew or improve your sewing skills? Do you want to learn to use a sewing machine as well as do hand stitches? Do you want to make a garment as well as repair clothes you already own and make them fit better? Then this is a class for you. Students will be expected to complete sewing projects each grading period. Prerequisite: This class is open to juniors and seniors and sophomores who have completed Independent Living and Personal Skills. </p> <p><b><i>Clothing Construction II:</i></b> This class is for the student who has taken Clothing Construction I and wants to learn more advanced sewing techniques and to improve sewing skills. Class requirements include completing sewing projects, such as a lined garment and altering a garment.</p> <p>Prerequisite: Sophomore classification and Clothing Construction I. </p> <p><b><i>Creative Expressions:</i></b> This class will help students realize the principles and elements of design and art in today s clothing and home interiors and exteriors. History of styles in fashion and homes will be studied and application of knowledge will be used in a variety of projects. This class will be open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There will be a lab fee.</p> <p><b><i>GRADS I, II, III, IV:</i></b> Graduation-Reality and Dual Role Skills is an in-school program for pregnant and parenting adolescents with an emphasis on high school graduation and economic independence. Curriculum includes maintaining a healthy pregnancy, developing parenting skills, balancing school, work and family, and setting goals for the future. One-fourth (1/4) credit may be earned each semester that a student is enrolled in GRADS up to one credit toward graduation.</p> <hr> <center><h1>Graduation Requirements</h1> <h2>Elective Classes</h2> <h4>All of these classes are elective classes, which are not mandatory.
