Posted on 10/08/2021

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) requires that all students entering the 7th grade receive two additional immunizations prior to school entry. These vaccines are: Tdap (tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis) or Td (tetanus and diptheria) booster AND the MCV4 (Meningococcal) And:

It is also required that all students entering the 12th grade receive an additional immunization prior to school entry.  This vaccine is: MCV4 (Meningococcal)

Tdap Vaccine protects against Pertussis also known as Whooping Cough

Meningococcal Vaccines protect against Meningitis and blood infections. Meningitis is an infection of the covering of the brain and the spinal cord.

These Ohio Department of Health requirements more closely reflect recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on immunizations practices, and involved consultation of local health districts, medical providers, the state Medicaid program, and school nurses. By requiring these additional vaccines, ODH hopes to minimize the spread of preventable illnesses in schools and provide Ohio’s children with a healthier environment to learn.

If your child has not already received these immunizations, you may take them to the local Health Department, or to your family physician. If your child has already received these immunizations, please make sure the nurse has a copy on file. We must have proof for them to remain at school.  Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions.

Proof of these immunizations is MANDATORY and must be received by Wednesday October 13th, 2021 or your child will be excluded from school and school activities.
