Amanda Boykin

Amanda is the daughter of Jami Boykin.  She is currently attending the University of Cincinnati majoring in Pre-Medicine.  Amanda was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Ironton High School and excelled in both basketball and track, winning multiple awards in both sports. She was an All-State track athlete and received a track and field scholarship from the University of Cincinnati.  Amanda, or Mandi, as she is known to her friends, also excelled in the classroom and was a member of various clubs.  One of her proudest accomplishments was promoting the school bond levy in Ironton.  Ironton schools have been deteriorating for a long time, and in part through Amanda's efforts, the school bond levy passed.

Some of Mandi's many academic and athletic achievements include being a Wendy's Heisman State Finalist, a state finalist in Track all four years, a four year member of the varsity basketball and volleyball teams, captain of both teams her junior and senior year, Senior Class Vice-President, Junior Class Treasurer, and a member of the National Honor Society.  Amanda has also been active in Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive, Book Drive, raising money for UNICEF, a member of Tiger Tales (reading books to elementary schools), a nursing home volunteer, and the Bicycle Drug Free Club.

On a personal note, there is a strong personal connection between our family and Mandi's.  Mandi's grandmother worked alongside my father at Lawrence County General Hospital and I remember my dad speaking highly of the professionalism and energy that Mandi's grandmother brought to her job.  Mandi told me that her grandmother would tell her stories of Dr. Osborne and it is a wonderful honor that we could award our scholarship to someone who worked so closely with my father.
