BOARD POLICY 1450

Persons Entering School Premises

According to Ohio Revised Code 3313.20 boards of education shall make such rules and regulations as necessary to govern the entry of persons other than students, staff, and faculty upon schools grounds or premises. Therefore, the Ironton City Board of Education hereby establishes the following policy, rules and regulations for governing the entry of entry of persons other than students and school personnel to or upon premises of the Ironton City School District:

    1. All visitors and guests not associated with the Ironton City Schools are required to register at the school office and obtain permission from the principal or the person acting in his/her absence to contact any student, staff, or faculty member, unless prior approval had been given by the school authorities.
    2. Trespassing or loitering on school premises is hereby prohibited.
    3. Students are released from the building only through the school office.
    4. Rules and regulations regarding entry of persons other than students, staff, and faculty upon school grounds or premises shall be posted conspicuously at or near the perimeter of such grounds or premises if there are no formal entrances, and at the main entrance to each school building. The school principal shall be responsible for such posting.
    5. Except in cases of emergency or prior approval of the assistant superintendent classes will not be interrupted. These regulations will be posted conspicuously at or near the entrance to the school premises and at the main entrance to each building.

PLEASE NOTE:

The purposed of this Policy is primarily the protection of the interests of students and staff while the school is in session. Students, staff, and classes simply cannot be constantly interrupted by outside influences.

It is certainly not the intent of this Policy to dissuade parents and patrons from visiting our schools, nor is it the mission of this Policy to keep people away from extracurricular and other "open" school functions and events. Our schools encourage adult attendance at and participation in these activities, and the school system greatly appreciates the fine support given our schools by the citizens of Ironton.
