Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator
The Ironton City School System shall have as its second ranking administrator a Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of School who shall have primary responsibility for the general supervision of all instructional programs. The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall be employed by, and under contractual agreement with the Ironton City Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools, to whom the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator shall be directly responsible.
The Legal Qualifications, Preparation, Experience
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall be fully qualified for this position as required by the Ohio Department of Education and Certification for Ohio. The Ironton City Board of Education, supplementing the state requirements, hereby establishes the following as the Board’s basic requirements for the position:
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator must have a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience and possess a current Ohio Administrative Certificate and have at least three (3) years experience as a school administrator or experience in curriculum development and federal programs; or a minimum of ten (10) years teaching experience, a M.A. Degree and possess a current Ohio Provisional Teacher's Certificate or National Board Certification.
Personal and Professional Qualifications
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall be an exemplary individual who has the necessary and desirable personal and professional attributes which will enable him/her to render outstanding service to the schools in the Ironton City District. In view of the fact that he/she will make major decisions during his/her tenure here, he/she must be a person of wisdom and good judgment. And, since the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools will be engaged in working closely and cooperatively with Teachers, Principals, and other school people, as well as parents, he/she must possess the ability to get along well in order to get the maximum from all of these people.
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator must be well informed on education in general, thus; he/she can bring to our schools the best methods, policies, and practices which have been found to be effective in other superior school systems. Furthermore, he/she must be willing to go forward to experiment, within the framework of reason and common sense, and be willing to innovate, within the guidelines of educational hope and promise. He/she must be able to impart to and instill in, his/her fellow-educators an enthusiastic and inspirational approach to making our schools second to none. He/she must not follow the "educational torch; he/she must carry it". In so doing, he/she may "punch a few holes in the darkness" and "light some candles along the pathway for the students who annually make up the public schools in the City of Ironton."
Salary
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall receive an annual salary, to be determined by the Ironton City Board of Education. The salary for this position shall be based upon his/her professional training, his/her experience, and his/her ability to fulfill the obligations and meet the duties of this position. The salary should be somewhat comparable to the salaries of other Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator in school systems with comparable student populations in this area of the State of Ohio.
Annual Work Year
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of the Ironton City Schools shall work the 260 total working days each year.
Work Hours
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall generally work an 8-hour day, forty-hour week, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The schedule, however, shall be considered as a minimum requirement, since the duties and obligations of this position will normally demand more time on the job than the minimum listed here. The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools will be expected to devote such additional time, at no additional salary, as is necessary to get the job done.
Vacation
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools, after having been in the employ of this Board as Superintendent for at least one (1) calendar year, shall be granted, with pay, an annual vacation of twenty (20) working days. This vacation may be taken all at once or a portion at one time. The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator may take this vacation at a time in the year deemed advisable by the Superintendent, taking into consideration the time when his/her vacation would least affect the proper management and operations of this school system. The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator vacation may be accumulative, and he/she shall be entitled to all the vacation may privileges and other rights and privileges granted in Board Policy 3243
Sick Leave and Other Leaves
The Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools shall be granted sick leave and other leave in accordance with Ohio laws governing same, and in accordance with Ironton City Board of Education Policies 4151.1-2 and 4151.7.

Duties of the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools
The duties of the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools are so varies and comprehensive in nature that is virtually impossible to list such duties completely and all-inclusively. However, it would seem that a listing of certain duties and obligations of the position would establish the pattern from which the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools could and should develop the position which is demanded by this Administration. Therefore, the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator of Schools for the Ironton City Schools shall:
1. Supervise and coordinate all federal grants and programs making sure that crucial deadlines of application and final expenditure reports are filed;
2. Oversee the correct and efficient spending of federal monies;
3. Visit the Ironton City Schools and Classrooms, as appropriate and necessary;
4. Evaluate certified personnel, in conjunction and consultation with the building principal;
5. Provide direction and leadership to the Ironton City School’s Principals in examining the school curriculum; make such studies of the curriculum as desirable and necessary; and make recommendations to the Superintendent on curricular additions, deletions, and/or other changes;
6. Appoint such committees of Teachers, Principals, and other as needed to regularly review textbooks and other teaching materials, equipment, and aids; make recommendations to the Superintendent as to additions, deletions, changes, and modifications of same;
7. Keep up to date and well informed on the newest and best procedures and techniques for use in our schools, and after consultation with the Principal, recommend to the Superintendent of Schools such procedures and techniques for consideration and possible use in Ironton City Schools;
8. Arrange and conduct meetings on the local level, of Principals, Teachers, and others of the certified personnel to study new, innovative, and experimental programs for our schools;
9. Work jointly with the Principals and Teachers in building and unifying the curricular offerings and programs for our System, which will result in the best possible curricular coordination and progression at and between levels of instructions, K-12;
10. Recommend to the Superintendent of Schools upon the placement of all Teachers, Principals, and other personnel in the Ironton City Schools;
11. Work jointly with the School Administration in planning and conducting a program of inservice training for the personnel of the district;
12. Be available to the Administrative Staff members and all other non-certified and certified personnel in this school district to assist in "problem-solving";
13. Supervise and be in charge of all Aides, and recommend to the Superintendent of Schools on matters of hiring, placing, transfer, and dismissal;
14. Explain and interpret school Philosophy, Board Policies, and Administrative Rules and Regulations to the employees of this school district;
15. Receive and process, and "generally handle" along with and in conjunction with the school Principal, all complaints leveled against the schools, make recommendations on such matters;
16. Orient all beginning Teachers, and Teachers new to this System;
17. Keep the Superintendent of Schools informed on all matters worthy of the Superintendent’s consideration, but not trivial matters;
18. Write such reports, papers, and other as demanded by this position, and as requested by the Superintendent of Schools;
19. Communicate to the Superintendent of Schools the requirements and needs of the Ironton City District, as perceived by staff members;
20.
Treat courteously
all patrons and parents of the pupils in this District; deal with time in a
professional manner; and represent our schools
among other schools and peoples in a professional, commendable manner;
21. Attend meetings of the Ironton City Board of Education;
22. Make it a standard practice and policy to look closely at our schools in an attempt to foresee difficult problem situations before they arise and get out of hand and cause trouble; in other words, pursue a policy of an action rather than reaction when at all possible, in order to prevent more problem situations before they become just that;
23. Plan, prepare, write, direct, execute, and evaluate (as appropriate and necessary or required) designated programs assigned to the Curriculum/Federal Program Coordinator by the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools.
