Assignment of Additional Duties To Elementary School Principals

It is the policy of the Ironton City Board of Education that the Superintendent of the Ironton City School System be given full authority to assign the principals of the elementary schools in this district to such duties and responsibilities as the Superintendent deems advisable and necessary for the general good of this school system.

Such duties and responsibilities shall be in addition to those duties and responsibilities enumerated in Board Policy 2210.11-12 and that Policy’s Administrative Rules and Regulations, and will include, but not be exclusive to, the following:

    1. Guidance and Counseling, K-5
    2. Special State and Federal Programs
    3. Gifted and Highly Talented Programs
    4. Public Relations for the School District

Each principal of one of Ironton’s elementary schools shall direct one of the areas listed and/or any other area which may be added and assigned at a later date. The principal shall devise, implement, execute and refine the programs to which assigned.

The Superintendent of Schools will formulate such guidelines, rules and regulations as are necessary to implement this Policy.

Administrative Rules and Regulations

 

One elementary school principal will be assigned to one of the four basic educational areas listed below. The major obligations, duties and responsibilities under each area are as follows:

(I) Guidance, Counsel, K-5

(A) Set up a structure for an exemplary guidance and counseling program in each of the elementary schools, K-5, based upon the Guidance Program Guidelines.

(B) Work with the other elementary school principals, teachers, and other professional school personnel in the daily implementation of the Guidance Plan.

(C) Follow the nice dimensions of the Guidance Plan:

(1) Information service

(2) Pupil appraisal and record service

(3) Group Guidance service

(4) Counseling service

(5) Consultation service

(6) Parent conference service

(7) Parent coordination service

(8) Placement service

(9) Evaluation and planning service

(D) Make provisions in the guidance program for:

(1) Educational concerns

(2) Career concerns

(3) Civic concerns

(4) Personal concerns

(5) Social concerns

(6) Drug and alcohol abuse concerns

(E) Make recommendations to the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools of program improvements.

II. Federal and State Special Programs

(A) Plan, write, seek approval for, implement, execute, evaluate and refine the following special programs:

(1) Chapter I

(2) Chapter II

(3) Title IV Flo-Thru

III. The Gifted and Highly Talented Program

(A) Devise an overall plan which will aid, assist, and generally benefit the gifted and highly talented students in the Ironton City Schools, grades K-5.

(B) Set eligibility requirements for participation; criteria for the selection of students.

(C) Choose instruments used in the selection process.

(D) Make a checklist of characteristics to look for in the gifted and talented program.

(E) Determine the areas of giftedness of the students.

(F) State the options available in methodology.

(G) List the services provided by the program.

(H) Set in motion the actual program.

(I) Seek the assistance and cooperation of other professional school personnel in conductingthe overall program.

(J) Evaluate the Talented and Gifted Program and make recommendations to the Superintendentfor program improvements and refinements.

IV. School-Community Relations

(A) Edit and publish a school system newsletter

(B) Write and send to local media such articles of news and other, which will keep Ironton'speople informed on school matters.

(C) Provide, from school personnel, speakers for civic and other clubs, groups, and organizationsin order to get the schools' message across to the public.

(D) Encourage community participation at school functions and activities, as appropriate.

(E) Send letters of commendation and congratulations to those who assist our schools.

(F) Seek out qualified volunteers for service on selected projects.

(G) Nominate deserving people for the Board's Meritorious Award.

(H) Provide for copies of Board Policies and Administrative Rules and Regulations uponrequest for same.

(I) Seek the services of competent townspeople of service on advisory committees and otherspecial committees.

(J) Design and develop a constructive and positive plan for community support of the IrontonCity Schools.

(K) Get the approval of the Superintendent for publishing and/or sending out any or all sensitive articles relating to pertaining to the schools.

The Ironton City Superintendent of Schools shall have the authority to alter or change the assignments of the principals in the four areas listed above - at any time - if, in good judgement of the Superintendent, the school system's students would benefit from such alterations or changes.
