BOARD POLICY 4110
Employment of Retired Teachers
In recognition of the enactment of Senate Bill 144, which eases re-employment restrictions for
State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) retirees, the following terms and conditions relating
to the employment of retirees will prevail in the Ironton City Schools.
For the
purpose of this policy, a retiree is an individual who has attained service
retirement status with STRS
and is otherwise qualified by
certification/licensure to be employed as a teacher in Ohio.
When a
teaching vacancy exists, the Board may consider and employ a retiree upon the
recommendation
of the Superintendent.
Retirees
re-employed under this policy shall be placed on the fifth step of the salary
schedule in the appropriate
degree level column.
A
retiree shall receive a one-year limited contract, which shall expire
automatically at the end of the term. Continuation
of employment of a
retiree through offering new one-year limited contracts, which automatically expire,
shall be at the
election of the Board and upon the recommendation of the
Superintendent. A retiree is not eligible for a continuing contract
regardless of years of employment with the Board.
A
retiree shall accumulate and may use sick leave in accordance with Ohio
Revised Code but is not entitled to severance
pay upon conclusion of
employment as a retiree.
A retiree shall not be entitled to participate in the insurance benefits provided to non-retired employees.
