BOARD POLICY 4131
Staff In-Service Programs
Three days of the school calendar each school year will be used for in-service training. The programs to be used for in-service will be determined by a committee of three staff members, made up of teachers and administrators. The Assistant Superintendent shall be an administrative member of this committee and will be jointly responsible for the initiation, implementation, execution, and evaluation of the program. The remaining two members of the committee, one from the elementary schools, and one from the secondary schools, shall be named by the president of the Ironton Education Association.
Individual school staff meetings are to be called and scheduled at least once a month by the principal of the school. These are to be held either before or after school hours.
When possible, principals should schedule common planning time for teachers (as to grade and/or subjects) to facilitate in-service programs.
Requests for attending workshops, clinics, and school visitations by staff members will be considered individually based upon the merits of the program and the availability of funds for substitute teachers. Formal application (on official forms provided) for staff members to attend workshops, clinics, visitations and/or any meeting involving released work time must be made five or more days in advance with the City Superintendent of Schools, who shall have the full authority to approve or disapprove same.
