The Attendance Officer
The Ironton City Schools Attendance Officer shall be employed by the Lawrence County Educational Service Center, upon the recommendation of the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools, under a legal contractual agreement, and shall be paid at an annual salary as set by the Lawrence County Educational Service Center. The Attendance Officer shall be directly responsible to the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools, unless temporarily assigned to another officer of the Lawrence County Educational Service Center, in which case, the Attendance Officer shall be responsible to the officer in charge.
Primary Function
It shall be the primary function, duty, or responsibility of the Attendance Officer to enforce the public school attendance laws of the State of Ohio in the Ironton City School District. However, since taking care of attendance does not consume all of the work-time of the Attendance Officer, other secondary duties and functions shall be a part of the Attendance Officer’s work. These secondary duties shall be established and defined in the Administrative Rules and Regulations of this Policy.
Working Operations
The Attendance Officer shall be an employee of the Lawrence County Educational Service Center working the Ironton City School District adopted school calendar plus ten (10) additional days as determined by the Ironton City Schools Superintendent. The work-day will be eight (8) hours. A thirty (30) minute break will be permitted within the eight (8) hour work day. The Attendance Officer’s time schedule will be assigned by the Superintendent.
Probation
The Attendance Officer shall be initially employed on a 90-day probationary basis and shall be eligible for continued employment upon the satisfactory completion of this probationary period. Continued employment shall be at the discretion of the Lawrence County Educational Service Center and the Superintendent of the Ironton City Schools, and in accordance with State of Ohio laws on same.

Administrative Rules and Regulations
The Attendance Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
The Attendance Officer shall:
(1) enforce the attendance laws of the State of Ohio in the Ironton City School District:
a. check, daily, each school’s absentee list;
b. seek out chronic and questionable absentees;
c. make home visitations as requested by principals, or others in authority;
d. take such legal, sensible, and approved steps and procedures as are necessary to keep students in school, taking “hard-core” cases to court as advisable and necessary;
(2) make “the rounds” to all schools in this District twice daily, once in the morning and once in the
afternoon, to deliver messages, mail, parcels, small pieces of equipment, school supplies, etc.;
(3) run errands for the Treasurer of the Board, the City Superintendent of Schools, and/or other
Administrators as needed (to the bank, notices to Board members, etc.)
(4) fill janitorial orders for supplies from storage and deliver same to the schools placing the orders, at the
direction of the Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor;
(5) do any other work-task as assigned by the City Superintendent of School or his/her designee.
