Work in excess of the regular work-week for which this Board pays over and above the regular amount of services of the custodians must be approved by the City Superintendent of Schools.  This rule may be waived only in cases of emergency in a school which would require immediate attention.  This approval for extra work may be granted by the principal of the school or by the Maintenance Foreman, if in good judgment of either, the work is urgent and necessary for the health and safety of the students and staff and/or for the good of and continual operation of the school.  The Superintendent shall prepare forms for the authorization of extra work.

All school-calendar (nine-months) custodians shall work a total of 201 days, including authorized holidays, each year.  All full-time (twelve-months) custodians and maintenance workers shall work 260 days each year, including earned vacation and including paid holidays as follows: Labor Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas (two days); New Year’s (two days); Martin Luther King Day; Memorial Day; and Independence Day.  However, Memorial Day and Independence Day shall be considered paid holidays only if the employee is scheduled to work the last working day before the holiday and on the first working day following the holiday.
