Library Aides

 

Employment

 

                The library aide will be regularly employed by the Ironton City Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Ironton City Superintendent of Schools.  The intent of the Board in employing a library aide is not to replace a teacher or other certified personnel; but rather to assist the teacher in the implementation of his/her program.  The library aide will supplement, not supplant.

 

Age

 

                The library aide shall be at least 18 years of age, or be a high school graduate over 16 years of age.

 

Rights and Compensation

 

                Library aides employed by this Board shall have all rights, benefits, and legal protection available to other nonteaching employees in this school district. Library aides shall be compensated according to a salary schedule as adopted by this Board.

 

Supervision

 

                The library aides shall at all times (while in the performance of their duties) be under the supervision and direction of a principal, teacher, or other as defined in Section 3309.09 of the Ohio Revised Code.

 

Work Hours

 

                The library aides’ work hours will be the same as the teachers’ hours in the building in which the aide is working.

 

Days Worked

 

                The library aide shall work 200 days each school year, including authorized legal paid holidays.

 

Qualifications

 

                High school graduate (or the equivalent) – College training preferred – but not mandatory – Unquestionable character – Emotional maturity – Acceptable speech – Good attitude toward school, student, and education – Will accept inservice training.

 

Certification

 

                The library aide shall be certified as per the requirements of the State Department of Education, Department of Certification.
