Maintenance Workers

 

                The Ironton City School District shall have such Maintenance Workers as are necessary to keep the physical plant in this School District operational and in good order.  The number of Maintenance Workers will be determined by the need for same, as recommended by the Maintenance Foreman to the City Superintendent of Schools, and he to the Board of Education for the Board’s consideration.

 

                The Maintenance Workers shall be employed by the Ironton Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of the Ironton City Schools, and shall be paid at a salary schedule as adopted by this Board for these Workers.

 

                The Maintenance Workers shall be skilled and experienced craftsmen who can demonstrate expertise in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and related crafts, trades, and occupations, and who can provide evidence of such skills and abilities in the work-place.

 

                The Maintenance Workers shall be directly responsible, and answer to the Maintenance Foreman.

 

Working Operations

 

                The Maintenance Workers shall be full-time employees in the Ironton City District, working 260 days each calendar year, including earned vacations and authorized legal holidays.  Generally, the work-week will be forty hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break daily.  However, because of the nature of this position, these hours may be altered by the Maintenance Foreman from time to time because of mechanical failures or breakdowns in the schools which necessitate the Maintenance Workers being called out at any time to correct such failures and breakdowns.  If the Maintenance Workers are called out before or after work hours or on weekends, they shall be granted compensatory time off, at a time mutually agreed upon by the Maintenance Foreman and the Maintenance Worker.

 

                Maintenance Workers will be required to work on emergency or snow days.

 

Probation

 

                All Maintenance Workers shall be employed on a 90-day probationary basis and shall be eligible for continued employment upon satisfactory completion of this probationary period.  Continued employment shall be at the discretion of this Board and Superintendent, and in accordance with State laws on same.

 

Sick Leave and Other

 

                Maintenance Workers shall be granted sick leave and other leave in accordance with State laws, Board Policies, 4151. 1-2 and 4151.7, and applicable provisions of the negotiated agreement.

 

Vacations

 

                All full-time, twelve-months Maintenance Workers shall be entitled to earned vacations with pay in accordance with State laws on same and in accordance with Board Policy 4243.

Administrative Rules and Regulations 

Maintenance Workers

 

The Maintenance Worker shall:

 

(1)      be under the supervision of the Ironton City Schools’ Maintenance Foreman;

 

(2)   cooperate with the Maintenance Foreman in every aspect of his work in order to have a unified approach to work assignments;

 

(3)      assist and cooperate with others in completing work-tasks promptly and efficiently, as assigned by the Maintenance Foreman;

 

(4)      do plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and other such allied work-tasks as assigned to do so by the Maintenance Foreman;

 

(5)      do installations, repairs, renovations, new construction, maintenance, etc. as assigned to do so by the Maintenance Foreman;

 

(6)      do such preventive maintenance as will extend the life of motors, moving parts, furnaces, etc.;

 

(7)   check temperatures (heat) during extremely cold weather well before the schools open, to see that the furnaces or heating systems are functioning properly and
        providing adequate heat;

 

(8)      be willing to be “called out to work” before or after work hours and/or on weekends by the Maintenance Foreman or by the City Superintendent of Schools for
         emergency or other necessary work-tasks;

 

(9)      not attempt new or foreign (to him) work-tasks which may be dangerous or hazardous to himself and/or others, without the proper instructions, guidance,
         assistance, and approval of the Maintenance Foreman;

 

(10)  do any other work-task not mentioned herein, but which would be a part of or attendant to this position.
