BOARD POLICY 4236
Pay for Accumulated Sick Leave Upon Retirement
Be it resolved by the Ironton City Board of Education that under the provisions of Am. SB, Section 143.291 of the Revised Code is amended to provide that those covered by Section 3319.141 of the Revised Code shall, at the time of their retirement, receive pay for all or part of their unused sick leave to the extent consistent with the negotiated agreement in effect with the respective bargaining unit.
Be it further resolved that the Ironton City Board of Education shall pay converted accumulated sick leave upon retirement of confidential personnel according to the same provisions as the bargaining unit employees.
Payment of converted sick leave shall be paid according to the following provisions:
(1) Payment will be paid at the per diem rate of the employee at the time of his/her retirement. The
employee’s per diem rate will be computed on the basis of the number of contract days per year
for the employee as stated in, and provided for in, the job description incorporated in the Board
Policy for the employee’s job or position in the Ironton City Schools District.
(2) Payment will be made not later than thirty (30) days after retirement unless the retiree requests that payment be deferred until after January 1 of the following year, but not later than one year after retirement date. The Board will honor such a request from an employee. Any payment will be made only after the employee becomes a retiree of either the State Teachers Retirement System or the School Employee Retirement System. Once such severance payment has been made, all leave is surrendered and forfeited. Such payment shall be made only once to any employee.
(3) In case of the death of an employee before retirement, any accrued severance pay will be paid to the estate of said employee, in agreement with Board Policy and State Statures.
