Job Description
for
Ironton High School Majorette, Flag Corps, and Field Commander
Instructor
The instructor for the I.H.S. majorette, flag corps, and field commanders will be contracted by the
Ironton Board of Education under a written agreement between the board and the instructor, and the instructor shall be paid for such services at an amount stipulated in said contract, and agreed to by both parties to the contract the board and the instructor.
The majorettes, flag corps, and field commander instructor agrees that no withholding will be made on the amount paid the instructor, and the payment of federal, state, and city taxes, as well as workers compensation will be the responsibility of the instructor, not the board.
The instructor shall be under the direct supervision and authority of the school principal, the school band director, and/or any other school official having jurisdiction in and over the program activities of which the instructor is a part.
(1) To teach majorettes, flag corps, and field commanders routines, and to make sure they know
same; to work with the band in presenting prestigious programs.
(2) To supervise approximately forty girls (I.H.S.) and twelve girls (I.J.H.S.), majorettes, flag
corps, and field commanders in all practices and local presentations and to see to it these students deportment is both appropriate and commendable.
(3) To accompany the band participants on most away trips, assisting the band director and \
other school officials in supervising the activities of the majorettes, flag corps, and field
commanders.
(1) At the beginning of the season teach the new line of majorettes all the basic twirls and footwork.
(2) At beginning of the season teach majorettes new materials for parade and show routines, contest
material, exchanges in baton twirling, one and two baton material; start on show routines.
(3) At beginning of season teach girls different types and styles of marching, and variety of footwork.
Do any other task associated with the beginning of season activities.
(4) During the time allowed teach majorettes routines for pre-game, half-time shows, contests,
parades, and routines for different types of exhibitions.
(5) Prepare all props and equipment needed for first semester.
(6) Help organize uniforms and see that all that all have uniforms, in good condition.
(7) Chaperone the girls on most of their football games and their competitions.
(8) As necessary, as in the past, give extra time in preparing the girls for extra programs and events.
(9) After football season prepare the girls for different Christmas parades which are presented
in November and December.
(10) After football season begin working on new routines in baton and dance for the basketball
half-time shows, as well as for any other programs they may need in performances.
(1) At the beginning of the season teach new line of flag girls consisting of 24-28 all basic flag moves
and footwork.
(2) At the beginning of season teach new material for parades, new flag material, using for parades,
show routines, contest routines, new flag material, using different equipment, like pompoms,
streamers, hoops, etc.
(3) At the beginning of season teach different types of marching and variety of footwork used in
different routines.
(4) During time allowed teach flag corps routines for pre-game, half-time shows, contests, parades, and
other.
(5) Prepare props and equipment used throughout first semester.
(6) Help organize uniforms and see that all have uniforms, in good condition.
(7) Chaperone girls at most football games and competitions.
(8) Spend extra time, as needed, for extra programs and events.
(9) After football, prepare girls for Christmas parades (Nov. Dec.).
(1) Teach the one or two field commanders the basics: work on marching, conducting, and routines.
(2) Prepare girls for pre-game, half-time shows, contests, and parades.
(3) Help girls with uniforms, equipment, and props as needed.
(4) These girls are also included in all show routines when not conducting.
(5) Instruct or teach the band different combinations of footwork when needed for different shows, and
help with marching.
Month of August (Practice, Training, and Instruction)
Majorettes Two to three hours, three times a week, for the first half of the month, and every
day during the last half of the month.
Flag Corps Two to three hours, three times a week, for the first half of the month, and every
day during the last half of the month.
Field Commander One and one-half hours to two hours every other day.
The training and instruction continues from September through December as follows:
Schedule:
Every day, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.
September and October four days a week 2:45 to 5:00 p.m.
November and December three days a week 2:45 to 5:00 p.m.
Note:
Special practices held longer, as needed, during the week, plus extra practice on Saturday.
Average of four (4) hours each day at school.
This does not include the time preparing routines and equipment.

Parade routines (for majorettes, flag corps, and field commander).
The instructor teaches, as needed, the band different steps and combinations used in different shows and parades.
August, September, October, and November work with the I.H.S. band, flag corps, and field commanders.
