Job Description
Junior High Librarian
A.
Responsible to: Junior High Principal
B. Function: To
provide all students with an enriched library environment and a wide variety
and range of
materials that
will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the
skills needed to take
full advantage
of library resources.
C. Qualifications:
1.
Ohio Certification in media;
2.
Training from an accredited institution in library science;
3.
Aptitude for organization, records, etc.;
4.
Broad interest in education, learning, media, etc.;
5.
Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students, and
community members.
D.
Supervises: Elementary Library Aides at Kingsbury and West
Ironton and student workers.
E.
Duties:
- Coordinate
the spending of all allocated funds for the library, using accepted
ordering procedures.
- Process
all new materials purchased for the Instructional Materials Center.
- Conduct
a library skills program for sixth through eighth grade students.
- Conduct,
as requested by the principal and teachers, special class sessions for
students and teachers regarding research, special projects, etc.
- Provide
a systemic approach to maintenance and collection of library materials.
- Supervise
the process of checking out and returning library materials.
- Requests
input from teachers concerning new materials desired and inform staff of
new acquisitions.
- Assist
students and teachers to locate materials.
- Promote
a positive learning atmosphere in the Ironton Junior High School Library
through various means.
- Establish
a systematic procedure to notify teachers and students of overdue
materials and establish a procedure to collect fines.
- Conduct
a year end inventory of all materials, deleting obsolete materials,
repairing damaged materials, and requesting replacement of missing
materials.
- Perform
other duties within the general scope of the job that may be requested by
the Junior High Principal.
- Work
with the staff so that library materials and services can be integrated
into the curriculum.
- Evaluates,
selects, and requisitions new books and non-book materials and A-V
equipment.
- Present
and participate in Ironton Junior High School Library related inservice
and preservice of the faculty as requested.
