(Entrance Age) Mandatory
Kindergarten
It shall be the policy of the Board of Education that each child who will be five (5) years of age on or before August 1 shall be eligible to enroll in kindergarten. Each child who will be six (6) years of age on or before August 1 and who has successfully completed kindergarten shall be eligible to enroll in the first grade.
The district policy requiring successful completion of kindergarten may be waived upon parental consent and upon approval of the pupil personnel services committee.
Early entrance to kindergarten may be permitted if the following requirements are met:
1. the child’s fifth birthday falls before December 31 of the year requested for early entrance;
2. the child’s mental age is between 14-16 months above the chronological age ( October – 14
months, November – 15 months, December – 16 months) as determined by standardized
tests;
3. the child’s total I.Q. is at least 125 on a deviation scale as determined by standardized testing;
4. the child possesses and demonstrates social and emotional characteristics that permits
conformity with the pattern of behavior commonly expected of children in kindergarten;
5. admission of the child is recommended by both the school psychologist and building principal.
When a request for early entrance to kindergarten is received, the building principal will interview
the parent and the child and arrange for the testing.
