CELL PHONE ACCEPTABLE USE
AGREEMENT PERMIT
Rationale:
In
light of recent national events of school violence the Ironton Board of
Education has authorized students in high school to have cell phones in their
possession during the school day. This
poses a variety of issues that need clarification and definition. Although cell phones can be brought into the
building the following must be adhered to in order for a positive learning
environment to exist.
Rules:
1.
Cell
phones should not be turned on and available to receive incoming calls or pages
during
the school day.
Students should not receive phone calls at all.
2.
Student
use of cell phones is limited to when school closes for the day.
3.
Student
use of cell phones is limited to emergency use only, which includes a hostage
situation, a case of an in-school shooting or an in-school intruder who becomes
violent. No casual cell phone use is
permissible during the school day.
Electronic games and/or voice mail cannot be used as a feature of the
cell phone if it is so equipped.
4.
Students
should not use the cell phones during lunch, class changes or at other
non-class times.
5.
This
form must be filled out completely and submitted for approval prior to bringing
a cell phone to school.
Violation
of Rules:
If
any of the above rules is violated the student is subject to school discipline,
which includes detention, in-school suspension, and/or additional measures as
specified in the code of conduct. Repeated violation will result in the voiding
of the agreement.
NOTE: The Ironton City School Board of Education
and its school are not responsible for the loss, theft or damage to a cell
phone owned/possessed by a student.
