BOARD POLICY  5120

School Guidance Services

The Ironton City Board of Education hereby establishes a policy for guidance services in the Ironton City School System.

The Board believes that guidance services are a very essential and integral part of the process of education children, and will budget such monies as are necessary to fund same.  The Board will employ well qualified personnel to initiate and implement an exemplary guidance program in this district, a program which will provide services for pupils in all grades, K-12.

The school system’s guidance program will include educational concerns, career concerns, civic concerns, personal concerns, social concerns, as well as related concerns, and the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

The guidance program will provide the services of appraisal, counseling, educational, and career planning, referrals, and staff consultations.  The counseling services shall be provided by certified school counselors.

The counselors, along with other certified school personnel, shall devise a detailed plan for guidance services for students who are enrolled in the Ironton City Schools.  The plan shall be as comprehensive and detailed as deemed necessary and shall be appropriated as to age, sex, grade, and other similar determining factors.

All guidance plans must be approved by both the Administration and the Ironton City Board of Education.
