Third Grade Guarantee
It is the policy
of the Ironton City Board of Education to provide all students with
opportunities to be successful in their academic progress. As such, it is
important that the district teachers and administration examine and promote
intervention strategies for students who are not achieving up to expectations.
Therefore, it
shall be the policy of the Ironton City Board of Education to institute the
following guidelines as it pertains to the Third Grade Guarantee.

Students that score below basic in the October administration
of the Third Grade Reading Achievement Test will be offered an intensive
after-school intervention program. This intervention program will continue up
until the July summer testing session for any student that remains below basic
after the March administration of the Third Grade Reading Achievement Test.

Students that have not scored at or above basic in the Third
Grade Reading Achievement Test, and have not participated in the intervention
programs offered by the district, shall be retained in the Third grade.

Students that have not scored at or above basic in the Third
Grade Reading Achievement Test during any of the three administrations of the
test (the last being after the summer intervention), but have participated in
the intervention programs, will be considered for promotion.

The final decision to promote or retain students applicable to
number 3 above shall rest with the principal.
