Administrative Rules and Regulations for Board Policy 5220
The Use or Possession of Tobacco By Pupils in School
The following are
penalties which will be used in the enforcement of the Tobacco Policy, and will
serve as an adjunct to Board Policy 5114.1:
First Offense: A two-day (2) in-school suspension, along with written parental
notification.
One day of the
suspension will be waived upon satisfactory attendance and
completion of a tobacco-health seminar conducted by an
appropriate local
health agency. The first day of the suspension is
automatic, The student will
receive
a “0” in each class in which grades are being taken. This penalty is
removed
from the second day of the suspension when the student attends and
completes
the seminar. The student would be
allowed to make up work and not
be
penalized on any assignment.
Second Offense: The
three-day (3) in-school suspension, along with written parental notification.
Third Offense: A five-day (5) suspension from school, with written notification to the
parent for
for
a conference at school. Court action will be pursued on the fourth offense.
Fourth Offense: Charges will be filed in Probate-Juvenile Court under Board Policy
5114.1,
Violations
of the Law, Insubordination, and Tobacco Use.
This Tobacco Policy will be enforced:
1.
During school day, on
school yards, and within the building,
2.
On school-provided
transportation,
3.
At school activities
within the building.
