Ironton Support Staff Association Scholarship

 

Purpose

 

The purpose of this Association is to:

  

1.        Help set and promote the educational objective of the Ironton City Schools System.

 

2.        Protect the welfare and advance the professional interests of its members.

 

3.        Foster professional attitudes.

 

4.        Establish and maintain helpful, friendly, relationships within the membership and school community.

 

Policy, Rules, and Regulations

 

1.         The official name of the scholarship is: The ISSA Scholarship.

 

  2.     The Treasurer of the Ironton City Board of Education shall have the responsibility of the opening             

          of the (monetary account), deposits, and disbursing scholarship funds, as approved and directed by

          the Ironton City Board of Education according to Board Policy.

 

3.        Yearly payment, being a one time award shall be paid no later than September 1, in the amount

of $500.00.

 

4.        The Scholarship Award shall be presented to an Ironton High School senior in each year’s graduating class.

 

5.        The qualifications for this to be awarded are:

 

a.        Attendance

 

b.       They must have at least a 2.5 G.P.A. in all academic subjects.

 

c.        The first list shall consist of the names of immediate family members as stated in the ISSA contract under funeral leave which states:

                      Immediate family shall be defined as the mother, father, brother, sister, daughter, son,

                      including in-laws.

 

d.       The second list of applicants should consist of any Ironton High School senior who qualifies.

 

6.        The nominating committee shall consist of three (3) people including one (1) guidance counselor,

        one (1) vocational person to be selected by the Superintendent and one (1) ISSA person to be selected   

        by the ISSA President.  The committee shall nominate no more than (5) candidates for each list.

 

7.        The selection committee shall consist of five (5) people, the officers of the ISSA, and the

        Superintendent of Schools.  They shall have the sole power to select the recipient of the award.  The

        decision is final; there can be no appeal.  They shall list the applicants in rank order.

 

8.        Of the students nominated, only one will be selected for the scholarship award.  In the event the student does not wish to go to an institution of higher learning, the second highest candidate will be selected.

 

 

 

9.        The first scholarship will be awarded in the 1996 Ironton High School Annual Awards Assembly, by the President of the ISSA.

 

 

10.     The award money may be used for tuition, room and board, or supplies.  The money shall be paid directly to the school the student is attending and only upon verification of the student’s enrollment.

 

11.     If the recipient is chosen from the first list, the member of their family must have been a member of the union for at least two (2) years prior to the award being given.

 

12.     The application form is to be turned in by May 1st of that year and the selection committee is to name the recipient by May 14th of that year.
