The Paul and Phyllis Webster Scholarship Award

 

Introduction

 

                Paul L. Webster was a teacher and principal for ten years from 1955-56 to 1964-65.  Mr. Webster was an excellent teacher and an outstanding school administrator.  He was exceptionally dedicated to his profession.  His sincerity and ability were well known throughout the community.  He was admired and respected by all who knew him.

 

                The Paul and Phyliss Webster Scholarship was established by their son, Stephen Webster, a graduate of Ironton High School.

 

Policy Rules and Regulations

 

                It shall be the policy of the Ironton City Board of Education to follow the procedures and provisions listed below in executing the wishes of those who initiated and established the Paul and Phyllis Webster Scholarship.

 

1.        The amount of the scholarship is set by Stephen Webster in the amount of $1000.  The annual monetary award shall be delivered to the Ironton City Schools by the Webster family prior to graduation each year.

 

2.        The Scholarship Award shall be presented to an Ironton High School senior in each years’ graduating class pursuant to the Webster family’s donating the award funds to the Ironton City Schools.

 

3.        The Scholarship Award shall be an annual “one-time” award.  It cannot be awarded to the same person more than once.  Thus, the Award is not renewable from one year to the next to the same recipient. 

 

4.        The Scholarship Award shall be awarded to an outstanding senior in the area of history.  For the purposes of this award, history covers all courses offered in the discipline with the exception of political science, social studies, and/or current events.

 

5.        The counselor (s) at Ironton High School in cooperation with those teaching history as described above, shall submit to the Ironton Board of Education, the names of the three (3) most outstanding students in history by May1 of each school year.

 

6.        The decision of the Ironton City School Board of Education in the matter of the selection of the Award winner is final.  There shall be no appeal.

 

7.        The Scholarship Award shall be made only to a student who plans to ( and actually does) enter college or some other institution of higher learning or advanced training beyond public school.  The award money shall not be paid directly to the winning student, but to the student financial aid office of the chosen institution which will earmark said fund for the recipient’s education.  The award money may be used for tuition, room and board, supplies, or other such needs, as designated by the student.  The award money shall be paid to the designated school of educational institution no later than September 1 of the year in which the Award is granted.

 

8.        In the event a chosen student should decline the Scholarship Award, the Award shall pass to the next student selected by the Board of Education.  In the event that none of the three (3) nominees chooses to accept the Award and not enter higher or advanced education, the Scholarship Award shall be returned to the Webster family.
