The
Sherman Blagg IEA Memorial Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this Association is to:
1. Help set and promote the educational objectives of the Ironton City School System.
2. Protect the welfare and advance of the professional interests of its members.
3. Foster professional attitudes.
4. Establish and maintain helpful, friendly relationships within the membership and school community.
1. The official name of the scholarship is: The Sherman Blagg IEA Memorial Scholarship Fund.
2. The Treasurer of the Ironton Education Association shall have the responsibility of opening the (monetary) account, making deposits, and distributing scholarship funds.
3. Yearly payment, being a one-time award, shall be paid no later than June 30, in the amount of $1,000.00.
4. The Scholarship Award shall be presented to an Ironton High School senior in each year’s graduating class.
5. The qualifications for the scholarship to be awarded are:
1. Attendance.
2. The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA in all academic subjects.
3. Children of paying IEA members will have special consideration, but not restricted to paying IEA family members.
4. Students entering the education field will have special consideration.
5. Students with financial need after meeting other qualifications will be considered.
6. The selection committee shall consist of 3 people: one association member, one high school senior teacher, and one high school guidance counselor all selected by the IEA president. They shall have the sole power to select the recipient of the award. The decision is final; there can be no appeal.
7. Of the students nominated, only one will be selected for the scholarship award. In the event the student does not wish to attend an institution of higher learning, the second highest candidate will be selected.
8. The first scholarship will be awarded at the 2000 Ironton High School graduation ceremony by the President of the Ironton Education Association and/or a member of the Blagg family.
9. The award money may be used for tuition, room and board, or any supplies. The money may be paid directly to the school the student is attending or directly to the student and only upon verification of the student’s enrollment.
10. The application form is to be turned in by April 1 of that year, and the selection Committee will select the recipient prior to graduation.
NOTE: Inaccurate, incomplete, or late applications will NOT be considered.

Candidates for the Scholarship Award must submit application to Ironton High School Guidance Office by April 1st of school year.
