Curriculum and Instruction
The Ironton City Board of Education hereby establishes its Policy on curriculum and instruction for all the schools in the Ironton City System:
1. The curriculum shall be planned by certified school personnel and should include input from
individuals and groups which are competent to make contributions of worth in these areas, and any
modifications, deletions, or additions concerning curriculum must be adopted by the Board of
Education before they may be implemented.
2. The curriculum shall be implemented by the administration, teaching staff and other such certified
personnel as appropriate and advisable.
3. The schools shall have a written, well-organized course of study for each grade and/or level for each
subject taught. The course of study shall be adopted by both the City Board of Education and the State
Department of Education.
4. The curriculum shall be evaluated at necessary and advisable intervals to determine its effectiveness
and appropriateness in meeting the provisions of Philosophy and Goals, as established in policy.
5. The instructional programs and processes shall be evaluated at appropriate intervals to determine their
effectiveness in meeting student needs and in relationship to the provisions of Philosophy and
Educational Goals, as defined in Board Policy.
6. Teachers’ daily schedules and lesson plans are required in all of the elementary schools in the district.
7. A master schedule and daily lesson plans for teachers are required in the secondary schools.
8. The plan for the continual evaluation of both the curriculum and instructional program shall be
implemented and followed according to Board Policy 6180.
