Educational Goals
The Ironton City Board of Education hereby adopts a Policy on Educational Options, as follows:
The Board will permit the setting up of such educational option programs for students as the Administration and Board deem prudent and necessary, based upon student needs, the availability of certified staff to conduct the program, the availability of funding, and also based upon the laws of the State of Ohio and the State Department of Education’s Rules and Regulations.
Programs approved include (1) correspondence courses; (2) tutoring; (3) independent study;
(4) mentor programs; (5) educational travel; and (6) home instruction.
Other optional programs may be added if and when the need arises. All, however, must be approved by the Administration, the Board, and the State. Credit given for options will be granted as permitted by the State Department of Education and the Ironton City Board of Education.
The parent/guardian must approve participation of students under the age of eighteen (18).
Prior to a student’s participation in an educational option, an instructional plan must be developed. The instructional plan shall include instructional objectives, activities, materials, and environments. The plan shall also contain criteria and methods for assessing pupil performance. Promotion/retention decision regarding students in kindergarten through eighth grade shall consider pupil performance relative to the objectives of an option.
