Testing Policy
Guidelines for the Use of District-Wide Test Results
The Ironton City Schools shall have an annual testing program consisting of the following : for Kindergarten, it will include Level 1 as a pre-test (fall) and Level 2 as a post-test (spring). For grades 1-8 and 10, the tests will include an achievement battery administered at each level, and an abilities battery administered at grades 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10; and an English composition test administered at grades 4, 8, and 10.
A. Pupil Performance Objectives for reading and math will be identified and matched to the
tests at grades 1-8 and 10.
B. English composition pupil performance objectives will be identified and matched to the
writing test at grades 3, 8, and 10.
C. The level of competency for each student in Reading, Math, and English composition will
be monitored.
II. Instruction
A. Group test results will be used to establish improvement goals for building level instruction.
B. Group test results will be used to establish improvement goals for classroom level instruction.
C. Individual student test results will be used to determine appropriate program placement for the
student.
A. Individual student test results will be used to determine the need for intervention strategies.
B. Individual student test results will be used to develop intervention goals and objectives for the
student.
A. Individual student test results will be used in conjunction with grades and teacher
recommendation to determine promotion from one grade level to the next.
A. Individual student test results will be used to determine if the could profit from an alternative
Educational experience.
B. Individual student test results will be used to help determine the junior high
and high school course program recommendations for the student.
C. Individual student test results will be used to help determine appropriate post high school
education and/or training recommendations for the student.
A. Individuals and group achievement and ability test scores will be analyzed to determine:
1. The effectiveness of teaching strategies
2. The effectiveness of instructional material.
B. Test results will be used to determine broad program improvement goals.
A. Individual achievement and ability test results will be communicated to the respective parents.
1. Parents will be encouraged to assist the school in areas of significant weakness.
2. Suggestions will be offered to parents on activities that they can use to help their child
in areas of significant weakness.
