Tutoring for Credit or Promotion
Ironton Elementary Schools
(K-8)
The Ironton City Board of Education permits students to be tutored to receive credit for promotion, subject to the following provisions:
A. The tutoring teacher must be certified by the State Department of Education and approved
by the Ironton City Board of Education;
B. In the elementary grades (1-8) a student may be tutored for promotion purposes if he/she has
failed only one subject. If a student fails more than one subject, he/she cannot be tutored for promotion purposes.
1. Prior approval must be granted by the principal to be tutored for credit.
2. The student must meet with the teacher a minimum of 30 clock hours and be assigned 30 clock hours of additional work. The time a teacher meets with the student is not to exceed five hours per week.
3. An individual educational plan (IEP) is to be prescribed by the student’s regular teacher and approved by the principal. The (IEP) should state the work to be accomplished and conditions under which it will be accepted as passing.
4. Tutoring does not insure promotion.
