BOARD POLICY 8310
Written Board Policy
The wise Board commits its policy to writing, available to all. Studies have shown that Boards with written policies tend to be more effective. Haste is unwise; there must be complete understanding by all concerned.
For efficiency and effectiveness, it is necessary that the Written Board Policy be kept up to date; it must be revised when changes are made or additions adopted.
It is suggested that we assemble all Written Board Policies for the past 25 years; that previous unwritten policy be included, after study and possible revision by the Board; and that we consider revision or additions when necessary.
A file shall be maintained, up to date at all times, by the Clerk, with an appropriate Index system. A loose-leaf copy of the Written Board Policy shall be presented to each Board Member now serving, and to the Superintendent of Schools; and to each incoming Board Member.
The function of the School Board is to legislate; the School Board establishes the basic policy. The Superintendent executes, that is administers the established policy. However, these two must work as a team, since policy formation and administration are interwoven.
